Machine Learning–Driven De Novo Antimicrobial Peptide Design Targeting ESKAPE Pathogens
Undergraduate Research Assistant
ESKAPE is the six bacteria that survive the antibiotics hospitals have left. The work designed molecules to kill them: peptides, short protein chains, that had never existed before.
Two models ranked five million of those designs, and about nine in ten of their top-ranked tenth really were active. Fifteen were made in a lab, and thirteen killed at least one of the six.
